Campaign For Student Achievement
GRANT AWARD!!!
The Greater Washington Urban League was awarded a grant of $100,000 from the National Urban League to administer its local Campaign for Student Achievement. The grant was one of 20 awarded to Urban League affiliates across the country. The League's grant will be used to hire three staff people to assist with program activities at the target schools. The grant was awarded by National Urban League president Hugh Price in a ceremony held at the J.W. Marriott Hotel on September 21, 1999.
The Greater Washington Urban League, in collaboration with the DC Public Schools, local organizations and businesses, is launching the CAMPAIGN FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT. The Campaign is designed to provide students with supports and encouragement to achieve at their highest level. The motto for the campaign is "Achievement Matters."

THE CAMPAIGN
In the spring of 1997, the NATIONAL URBAN LEAGUE launched a CAMPAIGN FOR AFRICAN-AMERICAN ACHIEVEMENT. The Campaign is designed to focus the attention of the community on student academic achievement. Every responsible adult in our community has a stake in the education of our children and a role to play. The Campaign seeks to recover the traditions and values of a former period in our history when academic excellence was valued and respected. It also brings concerned stakeholders together around a simple theme:
ACHIEVEMENT MATTERS...
In Washington, the Campaign is called the Campaign for Student Achievement. This name best addresses the racial and ethnic diversity of the student population in the metropolitan area.
The Campaign will be on-going and inclusive. It will be a collaborative effort between service providers, the church community, the business community, the school system, parents and students.
